Hot Quad 306

I've recently moved to a Quad 306 amp (after IIs and 303s) and was
surprised how warm/hot it gets but before I panicked I read the manual
where it warns that it does get quite warm.
** It will only get hot if played long and loud.

At idle, the external temp rises only a few degrees above ambient since
there is zero bias current in the output devices - if this is NOT the case
with your 306 something is very wrong.

Is this true for all Quad current-dumping amps, and if so, why do they
** Is what true ?
** They normally don't.

See above.

get so hot? The 303 driving a similar setup and at a similar volume
barely gets warm.
** People's idea of what constitutes " warm " and " hot " to relation to
amplifiers varies alarmingly.

Care to do some measurements with a thermometer ?
