How many Quad IIs ??

recently had two Quad II amps in for repairs and partial refurbishing -
new filter caps, cathode resistors etc.

One of them carried a serial number of over 153,000.

How many did Acoustical finally make before they changed to the 303 ?

BTW

I own number 8734 - originally made as a 100 - 130 volt model.

Its on Quad web site somewhere
Well according to the Model by Model details as listed in "Quad - The Closest Approach" by Ken Kessler, they sold 90,000 of them
between 1953 and 1970. As K.K. had access to Quad archives etc. during his research for the book, I would expect the figure of
90000 to be the "official" number.
I'd be very suspicious of one with a S/N of 153000+ .
** Why ?

I personally owned the Quad " ESL 57" carrying s/n 246.

Seems to me that Quad did not play about with s/ns like so many other makers
did.

BTW:

If I can persuade the extraordinarily tall, NZ born young lady who owns the
particular Quad II with s/n 153,xxx to let me take a pic of the name plate
and post it on ABSE - I definitely shall.

E-mail Rob Flain @ Quad Service - (e-mail address on their web site) he'll confirm one way or the other.
