utility to split up audio in sentences
|
Is there any utility that will split up audofiles containing spoken
language in segments containing individual sentences? If not, would it
be hard to create one that works for various languages?
For instance, I have the same audiobook in French and German and I
speak German
and I want to learn French. I'd like to split up both audiobooks in
audiofragments containing
the individual sentences that make up the complete book and merge the
French and German
audiofiles together so I end up with a big collection of files where
each of them contains the same sentence in both languages. Then I can
shuffle the entire bunch so I have a lot of practice material.

A translation isn't likely to have the same number of sentences as the
original!
But no, there's no reliable marker of "sentence" boundary in the speech
stream.
Note that German doesn't even have different words for "clause" and
"sentence" -- both are "Satz."

Thanks in advance for any feedback, kind regards, Niek

You might be able to manage this in DAW apps that offer a "strip
silence" feature, if there are sufficiently quiet spaces between the
sentences. But even after that was done you would have to assemble a
file containing the alternating languages. It's probably doable, but
would take some time.
