opinions please: 24 track mixing desks
|
Any opinions on:
Allen&Heath GL2200
|
The preamp is Horrible!
|
Do elaborate !
It's really difficult to make a bad mic pre these days and one of the last
candidates I'd have considered would be A&H !
|
I usually work with higher quality mixers but sometimes it happens to use
these low budget mixers.
I happen to do both FoH and multitrack live recordings with A&H desks and
the sound was very below decent, expecially on the smallest series.
There is really nothing more to elaborate...
One thing I can say is that usually low budget mixers are used together with
low budget microphones and low budget PA. I wouldn't add a bad micpre and
bad EQ to a sound chain that it is so weak.
IMHO the Souncraft 4^2 is the best sounding desk in this budget range. You
have to get used to the gain pot since you don't have a Pad swich and the
pot is has a "long run". But IMH the EQ is far better than the others. The
4^2 only lacks in buss headroom compared to the Mackie 24.8.....

Allen&Heath GL2400
Soundcraft LX7ii
|
You need very tiny fingers to operate it and the sound is pretty terrible
|
Soundcraft Spirit Live 4^2
|
That' your best choice (but not the live 4, please).
|
Soundcraft GB2
Mackie 24.8
|
Decent but it doesn't have phase reverse.
|
|
I'd take a look at some old Yamaha models...
|
I got Tim Perry's pm1800 32 ch in storage at my shop it can be had for about
the price of a 24 ch lx7
|
Some say that Crest is decent... I have no experience with them.
|
There is nothing wrong with the sound of a 2200 or an LX7ii. You just don't
seem to know anything. The Mackie is decent? ROTFL.
Crest's reliabilty has gotten worse since Peavey bought them.

Well having experiance on the crest, your better off with the mackie, unless
your looking at the rack mount product
Also having considerable time on every desk mentioned In have to say your
way off base on every point you made

Midas is too expensive, so is the Mackie, I think.
How do sound-quality and eqs compare?
Is anyone using the LX7ii (new model)? I've read a review which is quite
promising.
Spirit Live is our old (and now broken mixer), I'm now working on an GL2200
and am very pleased.
cons:The GL2200 only has 16 direct outs, the GL2400 lacks the 2 extra
stereo-returns, the matrix I don't need
GB2: only peak led per channel
Live 4^2: connectors on top, not easily flight-case mountable
(multiconnectors)
Any other options? (Should be available in Europe)
