Ping Phildo

Hi Phildo.
I dunno how true it is, but I`m told - and certainly Studiospares allow
Mine match yours Ron, I have about 12 of them
george

the rumour to be spread - that it`s the same box as the BSS with slight
so its harded to make a quality two sided board than a quality single sided
board
that would point to the reduced cost advantage of the single sided board
with boards of EQUAL quality it still seems as if the two sided would be the
board of prefrence hands down, as long as cost was not in the equation
george

cosmetic differences - I haven't compared the two, but last years
Studiospares catalogue had a photograph of the circuit board out of the
case.

I'd just like to ask you if you've changed your mind about your assertion that
QSC use paper-phenolic PCBs in the RMX 850 and 1450.

As in " Proof QSC is using single sided phenolic paper PCBs " !
I posted the photos, that should be enough for you.
Well...... The photos show that QSC *don't* use paper-phenolic PCBs. You're not
disputing that are you ?

I would be nice to see a formal retraction from you on the matter.
Obviously they don't use paper-phenolic (my sources were obviously mistaken)
but they are indeed single-sided, a much inferior method which leads to much
higher failure rates than double-sided.
There`s mountains of equipment that uses single sided boards still
working perfectly well after 20/30 or more years. Virtually all guitar
amps, pa amps, mixers etc used single sided boards until relatively
recently. The reason components fall off boards isn't to do with whether
the board is single or double sided, it`s generally poor mounting
techniques.
Board design plays a role too...the landing pads for larger components,
as well as high-power components that dissipate a lot of heat need to
be larger. Clearly there are advantages with double-sided PCBs, but
well-made and well-designed SS boards can be more reliable than badly
designed DS boards.

(IMHO of course)
but of course given the best mounting on a single sided Vs the best
mounting on a double sided, the double sided is better
and given the worst mounting on a single sided Vs the worst mounting on a
double sided, the double sided is still better
there is no valid argument that I have heard to make single sided a better
choice except to keep production costs low(cheap)

Sorry I haven't been around but the internet on this ship is down more than
it is up.
LOL. Sorry to hear that ! For my part I've been running around sorting out the
local venue again recently. I had a poor expereince with JBL/Harman - I'll post
about that later.
