vocal signal chain

Hey, I'm in a band and we're making our own monitor sound on stage (we use in
ears). Rigth now we are using the following signal chain:

voca l-> y split cable -> monitor mixer and house mixer (if that's what it is
called)

Now the problem is that we want to use a vocoder and we want to control it

vocal -> monitor mixer -> vocoder -> DI box -> monitor mixer and house mixer

so that I'm using a insert to feed the vocoder and using the DI to split the
signal.

Would that work?

if it has a built in mic preamp.

if it has mic level out so as not to overdrive the micer inputs.
