Opinions needed about Samson drums mics

Hello! Anyone familiar with the Samson drums mics? I'm looking at the
8kit kit. They obviously are entry level chineese mics but may be all
our public high school can afford. Comments or suggestions welcome!
Dave Wooten - a drummer friend of mine bought a set of them a few
months back. We're doing a gig tonight so hopefully he will bring them
and I can ask how they've been holding up. I remember hearing them
when he got them and they were OK so for the price as TimPerry sez in
the previous post - who cares - try them.
I've use all of them at one time or another but never miked an entire
kit with the set.

The overheads are really quite good, I actually like them. They do lack
a lowcut and a pad but are still useful. In addition to using them as
overheads I even miked a 410 hartke bass rig with them once. They
handled the SPL without breakup. Not as neutral as SM81, but still
pretty flat.

I've never used the kick mic on a kick drum but I put one on a djembe
once. Again nothing bad and pretty good low end.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the "Q Snare" and "Q Tom"
mics, but they work fine on toms. I would be careful because I don't
think they will take many hits from the drummer. One note here-the on
rim mic clips that come with them don't work on a lot of the newer
drums with the wider rim. The clip won't fit on the larger than 1 1/2"
wide rims. If your school has newer drums with the wide rims then you
are going to need some mic stands.

You really can't go wrong at $149. I think the pair of overhead mics
are probably worth close to that alone.

Brad
at $149 for the kit what's to debate? give then a try and if the don't hold
That's complete and utter male bovine excrement. While the 103 is picky as
to which preamps it works with, the B1 does not sound bad at all, sounds
good with every preamp I've used it with and I have never heard it sound
"bad".

Seems that chip on your shoulder gets bigger with every post.
I'll have to back that, for the price the B1 is an incredible mic. I suspect
TG-X 58 without the switch. The TG-X 58 is a budget alternative to the
Shure SM58 vocal mic. Over here you can get one (58) for less than 100
EUR, including stand and cable.
Some people prefer the Beyer over the Shure. I heard it often
recommended, when people were looking for budget live vocal mics.

it may not take the beating some more expensive mics may, but I don't know
that for a fact. And at the price, you can replace them.

Very hard to go wrong with B1's.

up try something else.

this series of mics is very rugged
