"Normal" Channel and Grouping?

Through the years, how we use our GL2200-24 has stabilized. As we've moved
into a permanent facility, I'd like to take the opportunity to lay out the
channels and groups more in-line with the norm.

I'm wondering how most people would setup the channels *and* the grouping
I have the GB8-48 at the venue where I mix set up like this. I have a
diagram on the stage so if anyone else plugs into the snake they are plugged
in to correspond with the way I have the board labeled. The venue is about
90% "Texas country" style touring acts and a few rock bands.

31-32 Sirius Radio

33-48 are reserved for when I have an opening band that I don't want to mess
up my dialed in mix for the headliner. We have a second snake on stage for
these channels. They are rarely used because we rarely have opening acts.

2 Channels of Compressor are assigned to 2 of the 8 Busses.

The Kick is assigned to it's own Bus so I can dial in some extra thump if
needed, and sometimes I'll assign the bass guitar to this same group to
bring the rhythm section thump up a little.

The Vocal channels are assigned to their own Bus so I can boost the vocals a
little independently of the rest of the mix if needed.

We have various fill speakers in the rear of the room that are assigned to 2
of the Busses so I can dial in the fill as needed. usually I will assign
only Vocals and maybe Acoustic Guitar to these fill channels and bring them
up slightly so the vocals will carry to the back of the room over the band
(you don't need the band in these fill speakers because the room isn't that
big). The canned music is also assigned to these fill speakers for
in-between set fill music.

The Mains are run mono.

The Center Bus has a separate amp and goes to a set of flown speakers over
the stage that are directed to the center of the floor. The high freq's
from the Mains tend to pass over the folks sitting in the center and down
front, and these flown mains are pointed out and down towards this area. I
typically only assign vocals to this Center group and bring it up just
enough to fill in the vocals for the people sitting down in the front and
center of the stage area. This has helped quite a bit because people used
to complain that the band was loud but they couldn't hear the vocals in that
area of the venue. A little bit goes a long way with this Bus.

The 8 Aux'es are used for 4 monitor mixes and the effects mix. 3 Aux'es
remain unused and I frequently use them if a band brings their own in-ear
monitor system and wants me to run IEM's for them.

Channel availability is:

1-14 are mic
15 (actually 25-26) is a stereo channel
16 (actually 27-28) is a stereo channel
17-24 are mic
29-30 is a smaller stereo return, used for effects coming back from Aux 5
31-32 is a smaller stereo return
Our major channel groups are:

(1) Praise team
(2) Spoken word (preaching and drama)
(3) Special music (choir and orchestra)

Within the praise team group, channels are assigned to follow the
left-to-right order of the musicians up front. The mic foam pop filters are
color-coded to the mic cord and markings on the faders to make it easier for
new ops to get their bearings.

Aux sends are also ordered to follow the left-right arrangement of the
monitors.
