Infusion wi-fi radio

Looks good :-
What exactly is the point of a Wi-Fi personal stereo?
Well it's available if you want it, there are now at least 4 wi[fi
radios so this is just a personal version

I tend to use personal stereos away from home, where my Wi-Fi connection
would not be available.
You can use a wifi hotspot to preload the programme quickly, which you
then listen to at audio rates.
The thing is where there are cities with free w-fi coverage like
Bristol and Norwich now I believe this type of gadget is great, ie
walking down the high street listening to say a local Aussie station.
Also I think wi-fi cities are more common in Oz where this product is
made so perfect for this situation

But anyway there are so many unsecured networks now up and down the
road parls etc you are fairly sure to connect to someone even for a few
minutes as you walk about !There are almost 40 in my road alone
I've been trying out my local cafes, and I haven't found one yet
without a free open wifi network near enough to work in the cafe.
Makes those cafes which actually sell you a wifi connection look
rather silly :-)
Are you saying you have brought one ?!

I'd be interested to know what its WiFi range is.
My WiFi-enabled mobile phone works about 2/3 the distance that my PDA
works.
I see that they are claiming 5 hours of WiFi use - but I presume that
this depends a bit on how good the signal is (do WiFi devices use more
power when trying to keep a signal working at the extreme of its
range).
My phone (Nokia N80) gets about 3 hours if I leave it within 2 rooms
of the base - I tried it recently.

I happened to be at CES in Jan 2005 when it was "launched".
2 years later and they are ready to go - but the site says that they
hope to start shipping on 17th November (10 days ago) and their
ordering page still says pre-order.

An interesting idea - but I think that 3G with large data allowance
would be suitable for a roaming user. A static user (with access to
their WiFi base) has many more options.
