DRM at 23 kbps

RTL 1440 is now using 23.62kbps with an audio bandwidth of 15khz ishh.
Sounds quite good. Sample at the link
Interesting. Thanks.

I've just burned it on a CD and I'll play it on a CDplayer and in my car
to the "unbiased" ears of some other people and ask them what they think
of it.

One small remark though. I understand the argument of storing this file
as a WAV (to avoid sequencial encoding issues) but you do can run them
through one of the lossless audio-encoders.

I ran the test using flac and it reduced the size of the file by some 48
% while the end-result (as this is a lossless encoder) is 100 %
identical to the original wav.

Cheerio! Kr. Bonne.
Very good for ~24kbps, at least PC->Tivoli PAL (mono). Perhaps a bit
lacking in warmth, but if that's typical of what DRM can deliver, well
worth playing around with, even if you just end up buying better quality
versions of music you wouldn't otherwise stumble across.
I'm not having a go, but if you think that sounds quite good then it sounds
to me like you're letting your heart rule your head - presumably you're a
DRM fan? Have you played it back on a hi-fi system?
I just played it back on my laptop, and could hear artefacts even on my
tinny little laptop speakers.

I'm just copying it to my music server to give it a go on my hi-fi. I
think I can expect it to sound a bit dire.
Yeah, it ain't good...

Got it now :)

Or bearing in mind the way it actually sounds, should that be
Got it now :(

If that is what he calls good quality, I wouldn't like to hear something
he considers bad.

My honest opinion of that sample is that it sounds very poor (worse than
DAB!), and it sounds completely artificial all the way through.

Anybody know what the 2nd track is on that sample? Was it Fish from
Marillion?
