Core boss>Major work to get best out of 80kbit/s beginning on D1

Subject: RE: Core in Mono>>?????
Body: Hi Neil,

It seems to me that you're expressing your anger to the wrong person.
This bloke has already said that it's out of his control. He's just
trying to do the best job he can with what he has available.
Quite an interesting job he has, play listing all those stations!
Anyway, the people to complain to are Digital1 (who won't care -
they're trying to make the most money in the business environment that
they find themselves in) and OfCom (who won't intervene, because their

Remember that Digital One is 66% owned by GCap, so they're effectively part
of the same overall organisation. Also, GWR sold Livetime to BT, which
became BT's mobile TV service, and IIRC GCap still has a stake in BT's
mobile TV service. Basically, GCap dictates what goes on on Digital One.

remit is not to).
Unless there's a sea change, and technical quality is regulated
properly, your only option is to switch off and buy some CDs.
It is fine to complain once to whoever you want, but when that person
clearly has no control over what you are complaining about, why not
leave them alone?
Cheers,
David.

To be fair, since when has posting a link to myspace been wrong?! It's
hardly a private photo sharing site!

My personal opinion is that you should never post personal information
about people even if the information is "freely available" on the internet.
The questions should be "Is this information in some way relevant to the
discussion?".
And, I am sorry but I do not see what a photo of what somebody looks
like is in any way relevant to the discussion of bitrates or mono/stereo
of a radio-station he happens to look like.
Anycase, you should ALWAYS ask people's permission before disclosing
personal information in a public forum, even for information which is
publically available.
If you know how and where to look, you can find quite a lot of
information about people "publically" available on the internet,
including people's home addresses, personal mobile-phone numbers,
family-related informations, photo's, etc.
I think nobody of use would like this kind of information to be posted
in a public forum.
The only person who can descide what information may be (re)posted and
what not, is the person him/herself, and NOBODY ELSE!!!!

Indeed, one should not get personal.
However, the "there are far more important things in life" argument for
not doing something is very poor. If something isn't in the top ten
most important things in life, should we just forget about it?
|
It's not about the fact there is a discussion about something, it's the
way the discussion is going.
If a discussion about bitrates or if a radio-station is mono or stereo
would get *me* that excited that I start get personal, I would really
start to ask some questions about myself and why I am doing this! :-)

David.

Lack of feeling?!! Not where we are! We're getting a lot of love and
support, and making Core bigger and better this year. The DAB bandwidth
issue is out of our hands though, as Digital One had contractual issues
to maintain a certain number of stations, which overlap with a
commitment to use some space for data, so we're making the best of what
we have. There's some work forthcoming to get the best sound out of

Where do they find these people from? Are suits in the radio industry
*actually* a new species but the geneticists simply haven't noticed that
their DNA is different to ours yet? IIRC, chimpanzees share about 99% of our
genes, so suits in the radio industry obviously only share 98% of our
genes - or less. I mean, you wouldn't expect a chimpanzee to miss the fact
that MP2 should have been replaced on DAB during the 1990s, and you'd expect
a moderately intelligent gorilla to realise that RS coding should have been
used from the outset, but the whole of the UK radio industry missed both of
these things for around 10 years!!!
