Aerial Connectors

My DAB aerial connector is like a post with a screw thread fixed to the back
of my radio. The Aerial plug has a spike in its centre that goes down into
the middle of the post, and a screw nut that you can screw down the thread
of the post in order to firmly fix it in place.
My Videologics are like this too. They are called 'F'-type connectors.

I know this isn't the best description in the world, but does anyone
recognise this kind of connector, does it have a generic name, and is it a
standard format?
Yes, and yes.
It's called an F-Type connector, (the same is used to connect satellite
dish downleads)

You can get matching plugs from the DIY stores, here's how to fit one:-

I want to get a better DAB aerial for my radio, but don't know how to look
for one with the right kind of plug on it.
If you get a rooftop aerial put in place, then you decide what connector to
fit on the cable, rather than being forced to accept whatever is pre-fitted.
